Pennsylvania Dutch Apple Pie Recipe
Holidays are the best time to spend time with family and friends. Everyone gathering around a family meal is a welcome sight. With the holidays approaching, the designated cook will be busy hunting for the best thanksgiving recipes for the family turkey, stuffing and holiday pies. This lens is devoted to the thanksgiving pie recipes we grew up with as kids. Mom or Grandma would dig out her recipe box and start getting ready to bake the pies. The smell that filled the kitchen was awesome and remember how you couldn't wait for it to come out of the oven so you could have a piece. Served hot or cold, pies are the most popular dessert served during the holidays.

Ingredients
- 10 Granny Smith Apples
- peeled and sliced then
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon cloves
- 3/4 cup flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 2 tbsp. cold water
- 9 inch unbaked pie shell
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees. Peel and slice the apples and set aside. In a mixing bowl combine: butter and sugar, stir in flour and mix until it resembles a fine meal. This will be the crumb topping for the pie. Place the apples in the bottom of the pie shell and spread evenly. Mix sugar, cinnamon and cloves and sprinkle over the top of the apples. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the top of the pie. Place the pie on the center rack in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Let cool to room temperature before serving if warm or chill in the refrigerator for later.
Libby's Pumpkin Pie Recipe
This is the most well-known recipe for pumpkin pie there is. Libby's canned pumpkin is much easier to use, especially for first time cooks. You can use fresh pumpkin much the results will be different.
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 can (15 oz.) LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
- 1 can (12 fl. oz.) NESTLî CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
- 1 unbaked 9-inch (4-cup volume) deep-dish pie shell
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- /2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Whipped Topping or Ice Cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs in a bowl until smooth and well mixed. Mix sugar, cinnamon and cloves in a small bowl, in a large bowl add the canned pumpkin. Stir the sugar and spice mix into the pumpkin. Add in the can of evaporated milk, and pour into pie shell. Place the pie in the oven on the middle rack. Bake for 40-50 minutes. let cool for two hours before serving. Top with whipped cream or ice cream and serve warm.

Sweet Potato Pie Recipe
Sweet Potato Pie is the southern cousin of the Pumpkin Pie. In the south, it is very common to see people making sweet potato pies as well as pumpkin pies. The sweet potato is milder than the pumpkin and has a smooth, creamy texture that makes wonderful pies.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 c. boiled
- mashed sweet potatoes
- 3 eggs
- 1/4 c. evaporated milk
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 (8 inch) unbaked pie shell
- 1 stick of butter
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 tsp. nutmeg
Instructions
- Peel and mash sweet potatoes, removing any strings that may remain. In a large bowl mix sweet potatoes, sugar eggs, milk, butter and spices. Blend with a hand mixer to get a smooth, creamy pie filling., Pour into pie shell and bake for 1 hour. Let cool to room temperature before serving. Top with whipped cream or your favorite sauces or ice cream.

Cherry Pie is a warm, comforting dessert for holidays and cold winter nights.

Serves: Makes 9 inch Pie
Ingredients
- 2 cups pitted cherries
- can substitute canned cherries or frozen
- 3/4 cup juice from red cherries
- or sub cherry juice in bottle
- 2 unbaked pie crusts
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons flour
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a medium boiling pan mix flour, sugar and salt. Add cherries and juice and cook for 5 to 10 minutes. The juice will thicken up and the mix will resemble store-bought pie filling. Place one of the pie crusts in the bottom of a 9 inch pie pan. Cut the second crust into strips to make a lattice covering for the top. lay strips across the top of the pie to make squares or lattice work. Press the edges with a fork to seal when finished. bake at 425 for 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely before serving. Serve warm with ice cream.
Blackberry Pie Recipe
Blackberries are sweet and delicious and make wonderful berry pies. They also stain your mouth purple when eaten fresh from the garden.

- two 9'' round pie crusts
- 4 cups fresh blackberries
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In a mixing bowl add: berries, sugar, zest, lemon juice and cornstarch. Press one pie crust into the pan and pour filling into shell. Top with the second crust. Mix the egg with 1 teaspoon of water and lightly brush over the top crust. This gives it a lovely brown color. Bake on center rack for 40 to 45 minutes. Cut a slit in the top for steam to escape. Filling with ooze out through the cracks when it is done.
